Advising Check-In

Orientation Resources

  • Welcome to the Academic Success and Career Center
    • During the academic year your advisors are located all over campus but they are here today to make this process easier.
    • The ASCC offers career services, tutoring and other academic support services throughout the year.
  • When your advisor is ready they will call your name.
    • Advisor is faculty or professional staff from your college or department. They know your major requirements!
      • 1:1 meeting
      • Take all the time you need and ask all your questions.
      • They will have placement test scores.
      • Talk to them about any transfer work (AP, IB, running start, etc)
      • They may or may not be your assigned Academic Advisor during the academic year. 
    • You will leave advising with:
      • A 1/3 sheet of paper with the course you have agreed to register for.
      • You may also be given a green sheet of paper listing courses someone has to manually enroll you in.
  • After you meet with your advisor you will go through a checkout process
    • Advising Check-Out Process:

      • ASCC: Advisor Assignment
      • First Year Programs: Check to ensure student is in an appropriate course based on residence hall placement
      • Green-Sheet Table: Manually enroll students who have green sheets
      • Math Table: Check to make sure that students placed in math courses (or courses requiring a math prerequisite) are in the correct course based on their ALEKS, AP/IB, or Transfer Credit
      • Transfer Center: Answer questions about Transfer Credits
  • After you finish the checkout process meet up with your OC after the advising session to take you to the Registration Lab to register for classes.
    • Some students who meet with College Success Programs and TRIO (on the 4th Floor) will get assistance getting registered for their classes up there.
